I purchased and only received an unopened version of this LP and absolutely dearest it. The song the Bomber is absolutely cute with the added "Bolaro". That was my main reason for ownership information technology! The rest of the LP is as well very clean and expert sounding. Very happy with my re-create and buy.

Well-nigh forty years ago on a cute fall afternoon, an afternoon just like this one, the James Gang rode into my life. Then as my manus moved across my vinyl this morn, in that location must accept been some sort of genetic musical memory that caused me to cease correct here ... and I tell you true, I can almost odor 1970 and the ragtop of my MGB warming in the sun, while images of Halloween rushed by me as I headed out of town in search of open up backroads.

This is the album for which most people remember the James Gang, and that'south a shame considering their other releases offer a diversity of really great material, though all in all, this is their knock'em dead release. The record opens with "Funk 49," reminiscent of their initial offerings, and while they describe deeply from those first offerings, James Gang step out lightyears from that point in their career, peculiarly with this second album coming so rapidly on the heals of their kickoff. This was a stunning tape, one that picked up correct where Todd Rundgren left off, layered and mixed from psychedelic lessons learned from The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour and of grade from Led Zeppelin 2 and their heavy blues influences. Impossible to be missed is the dimensional body and weight of Dale Peters' probing low-end bass lines that resonate the floorboards. Add to that an injection an undertone of funk that fifty-fifty Sly Stone would have been proud of, paved the manner for nearly every aspect of the stoner rock genre, influencing Aerosmith and countless others, and while in concert ... may have been THE greatest jam ring after The Grateful Dead.

It was truly a time of experimentation with the James Gang blending everything from Rock to Funk with the sweet strings of violins, bass, cellos, and tiny textured tappings of the pianoforte's white keys. "Tend My Garden" is every bit as trippy as the song "Collage" from the Yer Album release, and equally as moving. Only don't get thinking they've gone soft, "Woman" rocks your back teeth too as anything you will ever come beyond. I only don't find much to complain about with this record as the production is outstanding, at that place'south nothing sloppy with the playing by any of the ring members and when that guitar pick slides down the strings I'm left to wonder if they knew they had but developed a signature mark. Ane of the things that makes this record so great is that James Gang seem to concur dorsum just enough, leaving you waiting for them to push through hard, as about bands from this era did ... withal they don't, they concord you lot right on the edge with marvelous chord changes and outstanding numbers that will accept you hitting the repeat button more than than once.

James Gang became known as the stoner's band and I must concur that that brand is well deserved and is stamped deeply into the brains of well-nigh of u.s. from the mean solar day. It's a perfect October afternoon out there, put the top down, let the wind blow through your hair as James Gang takes you rollin'.

"Wow man [coughing cough], I dig this ring the most."

A side notation: I'm sure that fans have stumbled upon the outcome regarding the censored versions of Rides Again, with the abbreviated story going something like this this: All original first edition versions of this album contain a suite at the end of side ane entitled "The Bomber." Only the original first pressings of the album contain this three part suite, as shown in the rails listing accompanying this entry, which includes a ane:25 minute segment titled "Bolero," suggesting a total running time for the suite of 7:04 minutes.

John Revell's estate threatened legal action for the non-authorized use of "Bolero" when the commencement records hit the store shelves. Therefore, the powers that be, rather than fighting or paying, removed "Bolero" from all future pressings, shortening the suite to 5:46 minutes. That existence said, ABC Records apparently was not able to get new disc labels printed in time to comply for the second edition, the censored pressings, many copies were issued with the original spindle label listing "Bolero," even though information technology was edited out for those copies. And so, but because yous find a copy with "Bolero" printed on the label does non guarantee that it is present.

At present, as to the Mobile High Fidelity vinyl pressing, I tin can assure y'all that the total original album has been reissued with bright sound quality. The affair was settled with the estate of John Revell, with the manor coming to realize that free publicity is better than royalties sometimes, equally fans of Rides Again were actively seeking out and paying for copies.

*** The Fun Facts: There was no one in the band named James, the proper noun was taken from the infamous wild west outlaw outfit, The James Gang.

Walsh used something here called an Echoplex equipped slide guitar, its effects and responses are firsthand, and while I've never seen ane up close and personal, information technology's a dream I cherish.

As to the cover photograph, to which Joe Walsh says, "I recall the cover shoot for Rides Over again fondly. Nosotros'd absolutely no embrace budget whatsoever, but our route manager, Tom Wright, was a fine lensman. Nosotros were on the road, playing this small-scale society in western Massachusetts. In those days, we had no money for hotels either, and so we were staying with a band we met in Cleveland. They had a huge house they shared with a motorbike gang, and we were welcome there. Ane morning time, Tom was in the mood to take some photos and he kept eyeing those beautiful bikes. But it was January, and we were all hesitant to enquire the bikers if we could take their bikes out into a foot of snow. Tom finally asked and they were extremely excited to be a part of the shoot, though they could accept just been high from the dark earlier. We were blown abroad when they started the bikes correct there in the living room and rode them right off the front porch into the snow. To this day, I beloved that photo!"

More than than sad, on the 25th of June 2019, it was revealed that all of the James Gangs chief recordings were destroyed in the 2008 Universal Studio fire, forth with hundreds of other impressive artists.
